Install wsus server 2008 r2 offline

I want to install WSUS so I can push updates downstream to other computers on this standalone network. When I try to install the role it attempts to 'search for updates' then times out and says "The update could not be found.

There may be a network connection issue". If I need software not included with R2 it would have to be free from Microsoft only company security policy. For a disconnected server, you should simply not perform that synchronization task during the setup and configuration wizard.

All of the information obtained by that wizard, and needed for the server, will be obtained from the metadata import or configured manually from the Options pages of the console. In fact, you can cancel out of the entire setup wizard, since anything done by that wizard will be automatically created as soon as you perform the metadata import. Thank you for responding. Actually, this is not entirely accurate. The import only imports update definitions -- it does not migrate configuration settings.

The procedure for configuring a disconnected server does require some setup configuration to be performed before importing metadata. Most notably the langage setting needs to be confirmed, and the best place to do this is by paging through the setup wizard.

At the end of the wizard we have a summary of our configurations, just click Next to start installing WSUS. The installation is finished but some configuration still needs to be done, so click the Finish button to launch the WSUS configuration wizard. In this wizard we tell WSUS what updates to download, in what language, from where to download those updates and other stuff; just click Next to skip the Welcome screen and the Microsoft Improvement Program.

If your connection is trough a proxy server, set the proxy information, else just continue the wizard. The Languages screen give us the option to select in what language the updates should be downloaded.

Select your language s and click Next. Now select the products you need updates for and continue the wizard. Choose your updates classifications and then click Next to continue. Again, the more you select here, the more hard drive space will be used. It's much more likely that your installation failure has nothing to do with the lack of an Internet connection.

Please post the installation logfile for review. When I get to the screen to select update from microsoft updates or a proxy server I have no info to enter and cant select windows updates cause of no internet. On a disconnected server you should not be using that setup wizard. Everything you need is going to come from the metadata import done from the connected server.

The previously cited Deployment Guide article identifies which settings must be set on the disconnected server prior to import. Ok I have reviewed these links times unless im missing something it doesnt give direction on how to install wsus with no internet.

I believe the install needs to be a full install so it can mange all computers on this network. As always I do appreciate the help. WSUS would be a lot better, but if you can't make it work You can run it from a network share and it auto reboots the PC as needed until done.

You still need to start it on each PC, but after that it's pretty much automated. It's true that the documentation does not hold your hand through the process step-by-step. But it's pretty explicit on what you DO have to do as part of the setup.

You must:. Ok I got it installed and do I make this the replica server or how do I stop it from trying to connect to windows update. Also when I click import updates it tries to connect to Windows Update. What do you mean it tries to connect to Windows Update?

Terminology is very important here. If you mean that it's trying to download files as a result of the import, that's an entirely different situation.
